BANANA TOWN

where Banana World begins: jobs, an arcade, letters and neighbours

Walk by tapping or with the arrow keys. Tap a door, sign or resident; the roads lead to the rest of Banana World.

the fine print, in cobbles

what is this place?

In 1999 I drew a little banana that never stopped dancing. Now it has a town, and this is it: the middle of Banana World, free in your browser, with no account and nothing to install.

Ten residents keep the shops round the square, each on a day of their own. The bananas with a name over their head are other players, here right now.

what do you actually do here?

Bean by the Coffee Cup, the town’s coffee kiosk, a mug in hand.

take a job

Five places in town are hiring. Ask the banana in charge, work a shift and keep the tips.

The five game cabinets along the arcade’s back wall.

play the arcade

Five cabinets in Spinner’s arcade. Beat your best score, and a good run wins something to wear.

Twirl with a bunch of balloons beside the Wheel of Peel on its market stall.

spin the wheel

One free spin a day at Twirl’s Wheel of Peel. Paid spins feed a pot that keeps on growing.

Stamp at the post office door with a letter.

send a letter

Write to other players at the blue mailbox outside Stamp’s post office. Their replies wait in it too.

Pip outside the General Store, holding a rubber chicken.

shop at Pip’s

Things for your homestead, on a shelf that changes every day. A tidier square fills it up.

The Exchange, a striped market stall on the square.

fill an order

Residents pin orders at Tally’s Exchange: eggs, fish, crops. Bring one in full and she pays well.

Stamp and Bean facing each other over lunch on the Coffee Cup’s terrace.

meet the neighbours

Walk up to a resident and tap. They keep their own days, and they remember how often you’ve met.

The Coffee Cup shut behind hazard tape, with Bean waiting outside.

look after the square

Shops shut, lamps go dark, tags go up. Everybody’s fixing shows, and a tidy town gets busier.

the rest is rumour

not everything here is on a sign

  • The statue of a banana on its base, with ivy growing up it.

Nobody knows who the statue near the hall is. There’s no plaque on it.

  • The town hall’s upper window, lit.

A light comes on in the hall’s upper window in the evening. Nobody has met the Mayor.

  • The fountain in the middle of the square.

A story starts at the fountain. Somebody there has been waiting a very long time.

  • Some nights the town isn’t itself. Stay out late and you’ll see.

  • A signpost on the road out of town to the north.

The road north has a sign on it. It doesn’t go anywhere. Yet.

Nobody will tell you the rest. Finding it out is the game.
